How we made this list. The places come from OpenStreetMap records inside Birmingham’s city limits, the same data behind our local directory, checked against each place’s own website on Oct. 17, 2026. We added El Barrio from its own site and Unos Tacos from the Pizitz Food Hall directory. We left out a Taco Bell, a taqueria and a Mexican restaurant whose “Birmingham” mailing addresses sit in Hoover, Center Point and unincorporated Forestdale. The list is alphabetical. It is not a ranking or a recommendation, and nobody paid to be on it. Run one of these places? Write to us to correct your entry.

The places

Chipotle on 20th Street South is a location of the burrito and bowl chain, near the UAB campus. Its page lists the same late closing time every night of the week, with online ordering for pickup and delivery.

El Barrio describes its food as multi-regional, Mexican-inspired cooking with seasonal produce, Gulf seafood and humanely raised meats. The downtown restaurant serves lunch and dinner Monday to Saturday plus a Saturday brunch, and takes no reservations. Its site posts the menu and takes orders online. Its second restaurant is in Homewood, and our brunch list has more on its weekend menu.

Moe’s Southwest Grill calls this store Moe’s Downtown UAB. It serves build-your-own burritos, quesadillas, tacos, nachos and bowls, with kids’, vegetarian and catering menus, and chips and salsa with every meal, according to its page.

Unos Tacos is a family-owned taco stall in the Pizitz Food Hall, from a partner in the hall’s Louis Bar. Its site says the recipes come from Puebla and Tabasco, and the hall describes a short menu of tacos, quesadillas and tostadas. Its site links the menu and directions, and seating is shared in the food hall, which has a parking deck behind it on 18th Street North.
