How admission works
Legacy Prep is a school of choice: families pick it, and Birmingham City Schools’ zones do not apply. Its How Charter Schools Work page says charter schools are tuition-free public schools, that in Alabama they are authorized either by a local school board or by the Alabama Public Charter School Commission, and that charter schools take students by open enrollment or a random public lottery. Apply through the Enroll link on the home page, or call the main office for the current application window.

State report card
Alabama grades every public school, charter schools included, from A to F each year. The grade comes from a 100-point score built from students’ achievement and growth on state tests in English language arts and math, chronic absenteeism (the share of students who missed 18 or more days) and progress in English language proficiency, according to the Alabama State Department of Education’s report card rules. Alabama does not use CCRPI, the Georgia score.
